miss independent

avery's been in her big girl bed for a while now. i knew it was only a matter of time before she realized it was different from her crib and that she could come and go as she pleases. at the end of last week, zane had her monitor with him outside while he did yard work. i was inside playing with nola (in the nice cool AC-it's so darn hot!!) and heard him come inside and say he was going to wash his hands and then go up to get avery b/c she was starting to wake up. just a few minutes later i thought i heard something, and went to the stairs to see her standing on the landing in front of the gate with a big smile on her face :)

then yesterday we put her down for her nap and 3 minutes later she's standing on the stairs saying "i couldn't go to sleep upstairs in my room". i tried not to laugh and brought her back upstairs and told her that to have fun in the afternoon, she had to have enough energy and that's why naps are so important. she didn't get out of bed again until she had slept for a few hours.

i still expect to find her sitting in our bed at night when i go up to sleep. i'm waiting for the night that i startle to see her standing at our bed. it's a whole new ball game now that she's a newly independent woman ;)
